Sweet and Sour Pork is a popular Chinese Food Take-Out. This is the Cantonese version. The sauce is tangy and savoury and really tasty with steamed or fried rice. This is a healthier version, made without the batter. Enjoy! The recipe is below:

Pineapple Sweet And Sour Pork

For the meat:

12 to 16 oz. pork tenderloin or pork butt
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 tablespoon ginger
1 tablespoon garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup red or green pepper

Preheat cooking oil in a pan at medium heat. Add pork, ginger and garlic to pan. Stir fry briefly, then add salt and red pepper. Continue cooking until pork is about 3/4 done. Remove ingredients from pan onto a bowl or plate.

To make sauce:

1/2 cup water
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons ketchup
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1/2 cup pineapple chunks or slices
1 tablespoon cornstarch in 1/4 cup water
1/3 cup green onion

After cooking the pork, use the same pan for the sauce. For added flavour, don't wash the pan after cooking the pork. In the pan add the water, vinegar, sugar, catchup, salt, soy sauce and pineapple. Bring the sauce to a boil. In a bowl, mix the cornstarch and water with a spoon. Gradually add the cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce. Add the pork and red pepper mixture back into the pan. Make sure pork is well coated with the sauce. Cook briefly and add green onion just before serving. Sweet and sour pork is delicious served over steamed rice. Also delicious on fried rice. Enjoy!
